Historical Outline

Tamworth's history dates back to the Saxon period when it was the capital of the Kingdom of Mercia. The town is famous for Tamworth Castle, a well-preserved Norman motte-and-bailey castle. It served as the residence of the Mercian kings and later became an important strategic location during the Danish invasions and the Industrial Revolution.
